ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY 20th DEC 2016

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY (20 MARKS) – 1 hour and 15 minutes
Read the dialogue below and answer the following questions.

REJAB: We should fight for racial equality. All legal special racial privileges should be abolished once and for all. Only then, there shall be no racial hatred anymore in this world. (B1)

ZAINAB: I don’t agree because there is also another factor that causes racial hatred. The West intentionally creates disunity among us in the East so that they can colonize us. If we make a comparison between the East and the West, the East is far more sincere in humanitarianism than the West. (B2)

REJAB:  Please prove to me that the East is sincere. Otherwise, the East is as insincere as the West! (F1)

ZAINAB: The problem with men is that they always ask women to prove their sincerity by declaring their submission to men’s desire!  (F2)

REJAB: Whatever our disagreement is, I think non-Muslims should be allowed to use the word “Allah” in their religious scriptures to foster at least a multicultural image of Islam as a religion for all.

2.2 Student explains how what Misty said showed that she is affected by a barrier (i.e. hinders from thinking about something else)

Note: Simply explaining the meaning of the barrier does not answer the question fully.

3.1 Begging the question (1M)
3.2 Student explains how Brock’s premise is irrelevant to support his conclusion in the form of the said fallacy.

Note: Simply defining the fallacy does not answer the question fully.

4.1 Red Herring (1M)

Brock: It is dangerous to non-players as people who do not play it will in an unsafe situation. (F1)

Misty: I’ll tell you again, it’s not dangerous because it is an exciting game which requires you to explore many places that you have not even considered going. (F2)
